Self Employed Income Support Scheme (SEISS)

Following the Chancellor’s update last night we summarise below the Government assistance being offered to Self Employed individuals in the UK.

The scheme will provide Self Employed people with a grant for the next 3 months, equivalent to 80% of their average monthly profit; there is a cap of £2,500 a month.

You need to make sure you have filed your 2018/19 tax return to be eligible for this grant.  If you have not yet filed your tax return, you now have 4 weeks to submit it.  For anyone struggling to do so, we have arranged for Yorkshire-based accountancy firm Garbutt & Elliott to support you, should you require assistance. The contact is Ian Drakes at Garbutt & Elliott on 01904 464153 or 07483 066760. We have negotiated a discounted rate for you, which you will have to pay directly to them.

Provided you have filed the 2018/19 tax return, HMRC will be in touch with you directly to confirm your eligibility and to make payment. It is expected the payment will reach you in May or June.

Note that if you became a sole trader after March 2019, the Government advice is to claim Universal Credit.
