Training Courses Offered By Us
There are three options to choose from when it comes to driving instructor training at Bill Plant Driving school. They cover the same content and will turn you into a fantastic driving instructor with an ADI qualification once completed.
Both manual transmission and automatic vehicles are available for the training, so you choose whichever suits you best. If you hold an automatic licence, however, you won’t be able to use manual vehicles.
Standard Intensive Training Course
Available for budding driving instructors in Nottingham, our standard intensive course consists of three parts:
A theory section is to be completed in your own time. This is followed by a theory test.
The first practical session, comprising 10 hours of driving instructor training, is spread over two days. This section focuses on your driving ability and is followed by a practical test.
The second practical section focuses on instructional ability and takes place over five consecutive days – a total of 42 hours of training. Your final test follows the completion of this section. If you pass, you will be an approved driving instructor and get the go-ahead to conduct driving lessons.
The Standard Intensive Training Course is available in many main centres nationwide.
Head Office Intensive Training Course
Held at our head office in Ripon, North Yorkshire, this course includes the same material as the Standard Intensive Course but includes accommodation, as well as training by our top driving instructors.
Flexible Course
This course is great if you want to become a driving instructor in your local area or if you have a busy schedule and would prefer to learn at your own pace. It follows the same content as the intensive courses but has no time limit for completion.

PDI Training Programme
The PDI (Potential Driving Instructor) programme allows trainee instructors to gain practical experience while earning back their training fees.
This programme takes place before the third test and involves 20+ hours of paid practical teaching experience – a vital part of your education as a driving instructor.
Becoming a PDI can drastically increase your chances of becoming a fully qualified ADI. Results show that the pass rate for trainee instructors who have gone the PDI route is more than double the national average.
Giving driving lessons before taking your final test will provide invaluable experience that will help you run a successful driving school after qualification.
