It is now law to wear a face mask for driving lessons in Scotland

27/11/2020

The DVSA has today (27th November 2020) confirmed it is now law in Scotland to wear a face mask/covering during a driving test and on driving lessons.

If the pupil cannot wear a face covering, they inform the DVSA before arriving for their test.

The Driving Examiner can refuse to carry out the test if the pupil or Driving Instructor are not wearing a face covering when they arrive at the Test Centre. They will not refund these tests.

The examiner will not refuse if the pupil and driving instructor both live in the same household, or if either party have a good reason not to wear one.

Good reasons not to wear a face covering include:

  • a physical or mental illness, impairment or disability
  • wearing a face covering would cause severe distress
