Training courses offered by us

Our different courses all cover the same content but differ in intensity. Once completed successfully, you’ll receive your ADI qualification.

We have both automatic and manual vehicles for driving instructor training, so if you have an automatic licence, we can definitely accommodate you.

Standard Intensive Training Course

Our standard intensive course comprises three parts:

• Part 1: Theory. We will provide you with the relevant training materials, and this section is done in your own time and is followed by a theory test.
• Part 2: Driving Ability Practical Training. This section involves 10 hours of in-vehicle driving instructor training with experienced instructors spread over two days. Your driving skills will be tested and improved. A practical test follows the training.
• Part 3: Instructional Ability Training. This involves 42 hours of in-vehicle training, spread over five days, followed by your final test. We recommend joining the PDI Programme between completing training and taking your test to increase your experience and chances of passing.

The Standard Intensive Training Course is available in many main centres nationwide.

Residential Intensive Training Course

This course is the same as our Standard Intensive Course but takes place at our head office in Ripon, North Yorkshire. Accommodation is included, and you’ll be trained by our top head office instructors.

Flexible Course

The Flexible course covers all the same content as the intensive courses but can be done at your own pace. This course is ideal for those who are training while still working full-time or have families. It is also perfect for those who wish to teach driving lessons in their region.

PDI training programme

Giving our trainee instructors the best chance at passing their final test and becoming certified ADIs is one of Bill Plant Driving School’s highest priorities.

One way we do this is by encouraging them to join our PDI (potential driving instructor) programme. This programme allows them to gain practical experience by giving practical driving lessons ahead of their final test. It also gives them the opportunity to earn while they learn.

The PDI programme provides trainee instructors with 20+ hours of practical teaching experience while getting paid. This allows you to practice all you have learned during driving instructor training, which will play a vital role in your success as an ADI and help you to kickstart your driving instructor career.

Enrolling in the PDI programme can give instructors a much better chance of passing their tests – the pass rate for programme participants is double that of the national average.
