  • Nationwide Driving School, Bill Plant Driving School, have offered three Bolton Wanderers Academy players complimentary driving lessons
  • Sonny Graham has already made his 1st Team debut, and Kwame Osigwe and Markus Assarsson are both well on their way to making their debuts

Bill Plant Driving School have offered complimentary driving lessons to three members of the Bolton Wanderers Youth Team making their way into the first team

With Sonny Graham (17), Kwame Osigwe (17) and Markus Assarsson (17) all yet to pass their practical test, the driving school wanted to assist with making their transition to the 1st Team as simple and stress-free as possible.

Sonny, who comes from Morecambe, currently lives with a host family in Bolton, and Kwame is a scholar based in Manchester, with both having to rely on the train network to make it to and from training sessions every day, regularly facing delays and cancellations. Markus is from Sweden and only recently joined the Club’s Academy, and the opportunity to explore the UK by car will greatly benefit making the UK feel more like home.

All three youth team players are looking at promising careers with Bolton Wanderers in the 1st Team, with Sonny having played his debut in the fixture against Coventry, Kwame having been involved in a number of match-day squads and Markus has only just received international clearance.

Given the off the field issues regarding the previous ownership at Bolton Wanderers, many of the club’s youth team players have had to fill in due to the lack of senior players. Bolton Wanderers picked up their first point of the season against Coventry City in August with their youngest ever starting first team, with an average age being just 19 including many of their Academy playing including Sonny Graham making his 1st Team Debut

Given Bill Plant Driving School have a high number of Driving Instructors in Bolton and the North West they reached out to the club to offering driving lessons to the young men making the town so proud. Each of the footballers have been assigned a driving instructor with Bill Plant Driving School, and will be starting their lessons in October 2019.

Lee Wood, Head of Education at Bolton Wanderers Football Club, commented:

“We had some very testing months, but the club has been saved and this is the perfect time to shine a light on our youth team who are going to carry the club forwards. It’s a privilege for three of our boys to have been offered these driving lessons from Bill Plant Driving School and we’re excited to see how they come on and celebrate their milestones with them. Learning to drive is going to be fantastic for their personal growth away from Football, allow them to pursue their football career and gain a key life skill too.”

Peter Brabin, Head of Training from Bill Plant Driving School, commented:

“We are big football fans at Bill Plant Driving School and fully understand the impact football clubs have on their community. We’ve taught thousands of people how to drive in Bolton with our local-based Driving Instructors, so we are delighted to help some of the young players at Bolton Wanderers Football Club, who have been a true credit to the town.

“We wish Sonny, Kwame and Markus all the best with their football and look forward to hearing about their driving ability from our Driving Instructors”.
