When you start to take your driving lessons, we often find that the majority of learner drivers can panic themselves by worrying what a first driving lesson might include. Here's a few things to stop those nerves getting out of control!

What to expect during your first Driving Lesson
(Tried our eyesight test?)

• You will receive an introduction to the vehicle. You will be shown the vehicle controls (whilst sitting in the driving seat) and will be shown how each control works
• You will be asked to read a number plate from approximately 20 metres away
• You will be expected to provide your photocard driving licence, and your counterpart paper driving licence to the instructor so that he/she may confirm your identity and your holding of a valid UK provisional driving licence
• You will be asked a series of questions. Answering these as accurately as possible will enable the instructor to establish the best place to start with you as a learner driver, allowing you to get underway with the learning process as fast as possible
• You will drive the car! Don't panic, the controls you will use are duplicated on the instructors side of the car, and any mistakes you may make do not spell the end of your driving career! You are in professional hands, and will be taken care of when driving the vehicle so that you feel in control of the vehicle and safe

Extra Driving Tuition

Learning outside of your normal driving lessons is not a bad idea, and can be beneficial to many learner drivers!
The main proviso to this is making sure that the person you have monitoring you by sitting alongside you in the passenger seat of the vehicle, has held a full and clean UK driving licence for at least 3 years, and that the person is over 21 years of age.
The vehicle you drive must also be insured. The Bill Plant Driving School offers learner driver insurance, allowing the learner driver to be fully responsible for any accidents, and removing any claims from their parents insurance. Learner driver insurance.
Many learner drivers enjoy going for extra tuition with their parents; getting practical demonstrations and knowledge of your local area will give you a head start and provide support outside of your professional driving instruction, whilst also allowing you to see test routes, readily available through various websites, also found on the Bill Plant Driving School links page
