    FAQs

How much do driving lessons cost in Manchester?

The cost of driving lessons in Manchester varies depending on the instructor in your area. Fill in the form, and you’ll get a quote in seconds from a Bill Plant Driving School instructor in Manchester. We offer discounts when you block book your driving lessons.

Do you teach driving test routes in Manchester?

Test routes aren’t made available to the public. The DVSA’s mission statement is ‘safe driving for life’ and that’s something we agree on. This means that while our lessons do incorporate the Manchester test area, our main focus is on improving your driving and your overall familiarity with the roads in Manchester. Your instructor will take you driving through areas of Manchester around your test centre, and help you learn what could be potential routes, but this is all part of your wider journey in learning to drive. There is never any guarantee that certain routes come up during your test, so the main focus is on improving your driving skills.

Which Manchester test centre should I choose?

While some test centres have better pass rates than others, we usually recommend taking your driving test at the centre nearest to you. This is because you’re likely to be driving on those roads more frequently. It also means you won’t have to book lengthy lessons to learn other Manchester test routes. If you choose a test centre that’s a long way from your home you may have to spend considerable time reaching it as part of your lessons.

    Roundabouts in Manchester

The main roundabout to be aware of is the Greengate roundabout in New Moston. This roundabout has six exits and three lanes and makes for a great practice tool for students that are learning to drive in Manchester. The road signs on approach will help you to prepare which lane you need to be in, and good observation and forward planning is key to mastering this roundabout.

Another great place to practice roundabouts is Kingsway in Rochdale. This road consists of a number of smaller roundabouts leading to a larger one with a much heavier traffic flow, as cars will be joining it from the M62.

    Local roads in Manchester

Like in many cities, Manchester does have areas and time periods of heavy traffic, especially during the morning and evening rush hour or when the football is on. Bury New Road is certainly one to avoid during busy periods, as it is statistically the fifth most congested road outside of London!

Although practising in traffic is a necessary requirement, as it gives you time to prepare for upcoming hazards and helps with your observations/mirror work when changing lanes, a more quiet area for you to practice on would be around Buile Hill Park, for those starting their learn to drive journey.

    Motorways in Manchester

It’s always a good idea to ask your instructor for motorway lessons. The M60 is Manchester’s ring road which stretches 36 miles long and links most of the major areas of Manchester. It extends to areas including Stockport, Audenshaw and Ashton-under-Lyne. The M60 enables you to access the majority of the outskirts of the city and so it is vital that any learner driver in Manchester is familiar with this motorway.

Part of this motorway is made up of a “smart motorway” system, which means that it uses various traffic management methods to increase capacity and reduce congestion when necessary, particularly in busy areas and time periods. It’s always a good idea to familiarise yourself with how these types of motorways work, as they are becoming more popular within major cities.
