Today (Monday 4th June) provisional learner drivers are now able to take motorway driving lessons after a driving law change has come into force across the UK.
The rule changes have been introduced to help new motorists equip themselves better to drive on the motorway. It will also give learner drivers the chance to practise driving at higher speeds, understand motorway specific traffic signs and understand what to do if a vehicle breaks down on a motorway.
In addition to this, it will allow new drivers to get broader driving experience before taking their driving test and get training on how to join and leave the motorway, overtake and use lanes correctly.
Based on the guidelines by the DVSA motorway lessons will not be available for all learner drivers, motorway lessons will only be for:
– those accompanied by an approved driving instructor
– and when the car is fitted with dual controls.
With Bill Plant Driving School’s nationwide instructor base and dual controlled BMW or Volkswagen tuition vehicle, we are therefore naturally the perfect choice for motorway driving lessons. Any motorways lessons will be voluntary and it will be up to the driving instructor to decide when and if the learner driver is competent to take them.
