Pump Aid

Bill Plant Ltd, the Uk's fastest growing driving school and driver training company, has teamed up with UK water charity Pump Aid to help bring clean safe drinking water to remote African villages.

Our ongoing donations enable Pump Aid to purchase a new Elephant Pump per month to be installed in Malawi.

A spokesman for Bill Plant Ltd said: 'We are proud to be associated with Pump Aid which is a small specialist charity providing clean water very cost effectively working closely in partnership with local communities.

"We want our initial donation to signal the start of a long association with Pump Aid and improve the quality of life for tens of thousands more people."

Unlike conventional pipes which require skilled engineers for repairs , the elephant pump, has a cheap, simple design and can be easily maintained by poor local communities without outside assistance.

Pump Aid has already worked with villages to install over 10,000 elephant pumps. Each provides sustainable supplies of clean safe drinking water for 250 people for improved health and increased agricultural production.

More than three million people die every year from diseases caused by unsafe water and sub saharan Africa is one of the worst affected areas.

People are forced to risk disease by collecting water from open sources or rivers. Many must walk for hours to collect water. Pump Aid's Wish fund (Water, Irrigation, Sanitation and Health) aims to install water pumps and toilets; improve public health and develop nutrition gardens. For more details visit www.pumpaid.org
